  • WHY SERVIS

    A building-specific service

Servis supports managing agents and building teams where waking watch has been identified as an appropriate interim measure. We establish the required coverage and duties around the building layout, occupancy and instructions provided through the responsible person’s fire safety arrangements.

Waking watch patrols, reporting and escalation.

  1. 01

    Patrols, alarm raising and escalation

The agreed specification can include internal and external patrols, observation of communal areas and escape routes, reporting of hazards and procedures for raising the alarm. Site instructions define communication with building management and emergency services, and the operatives’ role in the agreed evacuation arrangements.

  2. 02

    Clear instructions and management oversight

Personnel are briefed on the site, its routines and escalation procedures. Supervision and reporting support a consistent approach, with a clear point of contact for building management to raise concerns or changes in requirements.

  3. 03

An interim measure within a wider plan

Waking watch should be proportionate to the identified risk and reviewed alongside the building’s remediation and fire safety plans. The National Fire Chiefs Council guidance discourages prolonged reliance on waking watch. Decisions on the building’s fire strategy remain with the responsible person and their competent fire safety advisers.

What information is needed to plan the service?

Please provide the building location, layout, occupancy, required start date and current fire safety instructions. The service scope must align with the building’s agreed arrangements.

Can the service change as the building’s needs change?

Coverage and duties should be reviewed as the building’s fire safety arrangements or remediation plans develop, in coordination with the responsible person and their competent advisers.
